Men’s B Team Report 2016 – Gloucestershire League – Division 6A
This year the Mens C team played in Division 6B of the Gloucestershire Summer League. This presented us with some familiar adversaries like Redmarley whom we had not played for a number of seasons. We also welcomed a new member to the squad, John Esposito, who had joined the club the previous season.
Our season started poorly, but never the less an enjoyable 0-4 away loss against Redmarley. As always the match was played in good spirits along with good hospitality post match. This was followed by a less familiar team from Bredon against whom we managed to win our first point of the season. Next came our second point from a home match against Lydney but it was also to be the last match to be played by Ollie this season. This was due to work commitments which led him … Read More »
Men’s A Team Report 2015 – Gloucester League – Division 2
This was a very successful year – we fielded 4 players for all matches and finished first – just ahead of Painswick on sets won. Promotion to division 1 next season.
There were only two disappointments – but both bitter ones:
Firstly our only loss of the season was against Cirencester (our local Derby and more importantly Mr Paul Bird’s other team).
Secondly the whole team were disappointed to move away from my 1970 style “pork pie and Mr Kipling cakes” post-match meals in the rain and onto priory pizzas with beer.
Winter practice for some of the team at the Delta centre helped us and it’s fair to say that the core team of myself/Conrad/Doug & Paul were successful much of the time with very able and very welcome contributions from Brett, Theo, Bryan and Bill.
Tiebreaks came close to being our downfall until … Read More »
Men’s B Team Report 2015 – Chippenham League
The doomsayers were wrong! Ok I was the head doomsayer, but hey what a good thing to be wrong once in a lifetime! Yes we stayed up, we didn’t get hammered every week and in fact we came an amazing 3rd (even though the final table was never updated to reflect this). So it’s a big congratulations to the team and the challenge is to maintain our status and continue to dine at Wiltshire tennis’s top table.
Probably the most important bonus aspect to the season was the lack of injuries. What I mean by that is that although we all had injuries, none of them stopped us from putting out a strong team every week. This of course meant that instead of the usual 14 players that we have to call upon we only used 6.
Yes we had a bit … Read More »
Men’s C Team Report 2015 – Gloucester League – Division 6A
This year the Mens C team played again in Division 6A of the Gloucestershire Summer League, following a long winter of uncertainty as to whether we might be relegated to a lower division. This year presented us with a new adversary Prestbury as well as a more familiar one Tewkesbury Park, whom we had not played for a number of seasons. The squad this year was a little depleted due to injuries sustained over the winter period and family commitments.
Our season started poorly with a 0-4 loss against Chalford at home followed by Cam & Dursley away. We then won our first point with a 1-3 loss against local rivals Cirencester. Those opening matches pretty well set up the league for the rest of the season. A week later things improved as we got our first draw against Cam & … Read More »

Paul and Frances win Mixed Doubles tournament
We had a good turnout for the mixed doubles tournament on Sunday and, though the dark clouds overhead were a constant threat, the atmosphere was positively radiant!
After several closely contested matches (and some not so close!) the top two pairings emerged and the final was decided; Paul and Frances vs Nigel and Janet.
With a contest of such epic proportions it was fortunate tasty refreshment was on hand to keep the energy levels up. Thank you Mr and Mrs Galea!
After much blood, sweat and tears Paul and Frances emerged victorious and raised the coveted trophy!
A big thank you from all the club to Marcus for all the work he put in to organising the tournament.
