Men’s A Team Report 2016 – Chippenham League
Staying up the previous year was a miracle, just like Leicester winning the Premier League title. So the question was simply; are we going to do a Leicester and flop this year? But it has been a year of surprises; Brexit, Donald Trump, Richard buying a round, so no, we did ourselves proud and stayed up, coming a creditable 5th place avoiding relegation with some ease.
The season has not been without it inevitable crisis’s, with injuries to Doug and the unexpected early departure of star man Conrad who was poached by the 5 aside football team and his new wife! This has meant drawing on the extended pool of reserve players from the C team for which we thank them for that.
Special mention goes to Richard for playing most of the matches and also to Paul Hampton for most improved player. The latter part of the season also saw the return of Alex Clancy after his paternity leave of 3 years so hopefully he will be back in full next year. There is a hint that Conrad may make a return which should give us an even stronger squad.
Next season should hopefully see a more concentrated effort for this team and league so we shall wait and see how we perform (once we have shaken off all of the curries that we have eaten!).
