The doomsayers were wrong! Ok I was the head doomsayer, but hey what a good thing to be wrong once in a lifetime! Yes we stayed up, we didn’t get hammered every week and in fact we came an amazing 3^rd (even though the final table was never updated to reflect this). So it’s a big congratulations to the team and the challenge is to maintain our status and continue to dine at Wiltshire tennis’s top table.

Probably the most important bonus aspect to the season was the lack of injuries. What I mean by that is that although we all had injuries, none of them stopped us from putting out a strong team every week. This of course meant that instead of the usual 14 players that we have to call upon we only used 6.

Yes we had a bit of luck! The free 8 points we gained definitely had a bearing on our success but despite that we still would have done well and stayed up. The usual accreditation needs to go to Richard and Conrad who proved a formidable pairing as ever. But in general the points were gained by everybody across the board.

Last year’s report finished with this paragraph;

“We need not be under any illusion that next year will be extremely tough. Most teams that get promoted to Division One come straight back down! However that’s our challenge next season…STAY UP!”

This applies again for next season as I am sure that it will prove a challenge but hey, that’s why we do it!
